About Me
Hello, I’m John Hargrave, an experienced English teacher based in Sydney. I have spent more than 40 years helping both children and adults build strong English skills for school, exams, and everyday life.
I hold a Master’s Degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), a Bachelor of Education, a Diploma of Teaching, and a Master’s in Religious Education. I am also an IELTS Speaking Examiner, which means I understand exactly what examiners look for in high-level speaking and writing.
For school students, I offer lessons that follow the NSW curriculum, focusing on writing, reading comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary. Many of my students prepare for NAPLAN, Opportunity Class, and Selective School exams — and go on to achieve excellent results.
For adults, I provide IELTS preparation and everyday English classes that build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Each lesson is practical, encouraging, and designed to meet your personal goals — whether for work, study, or daily communication in Australia.
My teaching style is patient, structured, and motivating. I believe that with the right guidance and practice, every learner can make real progress and enjoy learning English.
